Chapter 5: A Secret Wrapped in Lies

"The truth has a dangerous habit of finding the people who were never supposed to see it."

The photograph slipped from Aradhya's trembling fingers.

It landed on her desk.

She stared at it.

A beautiful young woman in a white wedding dress stood beside Arjun Malhotra.

They looked... Happy.

The Arjun in the photograph was different.

His smile was warm ,eyes were full of life.

Almost unrecognizable.

Across the picture, written in crimson ink, were five chilling words.

"She's dead because of him."

Aradhya's heartbeat quickened.

"What...?"

She turned the photograph over.

Nothing.

No name.

No date.

No sender.

Just silence.

"Miss Sharma?"

Aradhya quickly hid the photograph inside her notebook.

"Y-Yes?"

A junior employee smiled.

"Mr. Malhotra is asking for you."

She took a deep breath.

"Act normal."

Arjun's office.

He stood by the window, speaking on the phone.

"I don't care what the board thinks."

"They can cancel the meeting if they want."

His voice remained calm.

Cold.

Powerful.

He ended the call.

Without turning around, he asked,

"Did you receive my schedule?"

"Yes, sir."

"Good."

She placed the files on his desk.

For a moment...

She looked at him.

The man standing before her looked nothing like the smiling man in the photograph.

"Who are you...?"

Arjun noticed her staring.

"Is there something on my face?"

She looked away immediately.

"No, sir."

The office remained quiet.

Finally...

Curiosity defeated caution.

"Sir..."

He looked up.

"Five years ago..."

His expression changed instantly.

Ice.

Pure ice.

"I gave you one condition."

His voice was dangerously calm.

"You agreed."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't ask again."

Silence filled the room.

Aradhya nodded.

"I understand."

She turned to leave.

"Miss Sharma."

She stopped.

Without looking at her, Arjun said,

"Some doors exist for a reason."

"Leave them closed."

That evening...

The mysterious man sat inside the same black SUV.

He smiled as he watched Aradhya leave the building.

His phone rang.

"Did she receive the photograph?"

"Yes."

"And?"

"She's already asking questions."

A soft laugh echoed through the speaker.

"Excellent."

"The game has begun."

Meanwhile...

Arjun drove home alone.

Rain tapped gently against the windshield ,traffic lights reflected across the wet roads.

Suddenly...

A little girl ran after a red balloon.

Straight into the road.

A speeding truck approached.

Without thinking—

Arjun slammed the brakes.

He jumped out of the car.

Scooped the frightened child into his arms.

The truck rushed past.

Missing them by inches.

The little girl burst into tears.

"It's okay."

His voice was unexpectedly gentle.

"You're safe."

Her mother ran over.

"Thank you... thank you so much!"

Arjun simply nodded.

As he turned away...

The little girl smiled.

"You're not scary."

He stopped walking.

"My mommy says heroes always look serious."

For the first time in years...

Something inside Arjun cracked.

He smiled.

Just a little.

The little girl waved.

"Bye, uncle!"

He watched them disappear into the crowd.

Then quietly whispered to himself,

"When did I stop smiling?"

The next morning...

Aradhya entered the office carrying coffee.

Everyone seemed unusually nervous.

She approached Kabir.

"What happened?"

He sighed.

"The chairman is here."

"And..."

"He brought someone."

Before Aradhya could ask another question...

The elevator doors opened.

An elegant young woman stepped out.

Designer saree, Diamond earrings,Perfect posture.

She walked confidently toward Aryan's office.

Every employee stared.

"Who is she?"

Kabir answered softly.

"Miss Meera Khanna."

"The woman the chairman wants Arjun sir to marry."

Aradhya felt something strange in her chest.

She couldn't explain it.

She had known Arjun for only a few days.

So why...

Did the thought of another woman standing beside him suddenly hurt?

Cliffhanger:

As Meera entered Arjun's office, she smiled confidently.

"Hello, Arjun."

He looked at her without emotion.

She placed a wedding invitation on his desk.

Then whispered,

"Whether you like it or not... we're getting married."

Arjun's expression darkened.

Outside the office...

Aradhya accidentally heard every word.
